Senior Care Assistant/Med Technician (Cedars)


As a Senior Care Assistant/ Med Tech you will show warmth and support to the residents, helping to promote independence and dignity and positively enhance the lives of the individuals in your care. You will have NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, Medical Administration qualification and have a minimum of 2-3 years in a similar role.If you have knowledge and experience of caring for elderly people, come from a caring background and have a genuine love and understanding of older people then this job could be for you.


Senior care assistants/medicine technicians (SCA/med techs) provide the highest possible standard of care and service to residents while performing a supervisory role. While on duty, they oversee other care workers and take responsibility for the smooth running of the service. SCA/Med Techs administer prescribed drugs, respond to emergencies and provide guidance and support to care assistants, under the supervision of qualified nursing staff.

As an SCA/med tech you will provide first-rate person-centred care, checking on residents throughout the day or night and helping them with activities that they would usually perform (or have in the past performed) themselves but cannot now do without assistance. Working under the direction of your manager and as part of a team, you will promote and encourage their independence while maintaining their dignity and self-esteem. You will review care plans to see that they remain appropriate and support residents to participate in wellbeing activities both inside and outside the home. Throughout, you will develop positive, helpful and caring relationships with residents and their families. You will also be trained to administer drugs and treatments as prescribed. As part of your managerial duties, you will act as a role model to care assistants, organise the keyworker system for the designated unit and support the training and supervision of new and junior staff members.

You will work weekly contacted hours, as agreed with the home manager, which will include weekends and public holidays. A successful contender for the role will hold a Level 3 in Health and Social Care plus a qualification in medication administration and a minimum of 2-3 years’ employment in a similar role. You will need a knowledge and understanding of the person-centred care planning process, the ability to lead and manage a team, strong written and oral communication skills and also be able to demonstrate a respectful, courteous and compassionate manner at all times.
