Chris's story

Chris had a wide-ranging career before joining the organisation as a facilities technician over three years ago, He had previously been a scaffolder, a police community support officer and ran his own maintenance company looking after 23 buildings across London. However, for the first time he now feels settled in a job that he really loves.

During his time with us Chris has gained his NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, covering all the practical skills that are essential to health and safety professionals.

Chris’ role is certainly varied. Day to day, he is responsible for maintaining the building and liaising with outside suppliers to ensure that any work on the premises or garden is completed to a high standard. He carries out regular maintenance and fire checks, ensuring that regulations are complied with, completing the appropriate paperwork as evidence.

“It really doesn’t feel like I am coming to work – it’s like my second home,” he says. The home and grounds are my baby! There is always plenty to do here, as the home holds so many activities including a birds of prey exhibition or a dog show, building a memorial garden or creating Santa’s grotto, complete with reindeer for residents and the local community to enjoy.”

Outside work, Chris is kept busy with his family. His two children, Summer-Rose and Elliott Lee, visit the home regularly. A life-long football lover – he played semi-professionally until he injured his knee.
