Head of Activities
The head of activities takes overall responsibility for the recreational, therapeutic and social aspects of the residents’ activities, both inside and outside the home. He or she also takes a lead in promoting the home and ensuring that members of the local community are aware of the positive and therapeutic aspects of the activities being provided.
Before joining the organisation as head of activities, Becky enjoyed an interesting and varied career.
She has been an Ofsted “Outstanding” childminder (with a Level 3 Diploma for the Children’s and Young People’s Workforce under her belt) and recently gained the Nursing Access Diploma.
Becky is responsible for residents’ health and wellbeing so it’s her job to give residents a good quality of life filled with variety, fun and laughter. Working alongside her team of four, she plans daily therapeutic and sensory activities (including trips out) for all residents who can participate. She also ensures that those who cannot join in still receive special attention and so do not feel excluded.
Other major components of her role include completing the mandatory paperwork as evidence of our service to residents, looking after staffing within the activities department and attending meetings to have an input into services provided.
Becky loves her role. “I enjoy working with our fantastic team. Without a doubt my favourite part of the job is seeing residents smile and knowing that I’ve contributed towards it. I also love their life stories. What they’ve done in their lives and their ages amaze me – the other day I got beaten at boules by a sprightly 99-year-old!” she says.
Away from work Becky runs a photography business working with children, families and newlyweds, and much of her spare time is spent in the studio or editing photos. She recently sold her other business – catering for children’s parties and entertainment – to buy her first family home with husband Aaron. She is also a proud mum to son Harley, aged 9, a very sporty little boy who enjoys mixed martial arts and basketball.
