Nurse Team Leader
The nurse team leader ensures high standards of nursing care while facilitating an atmosphere that enables residents to live as independently as possible. The team leader is expected to promote the home’s policies, philosophy of care and CQC standards, as well as supervising and mentoring the RGNs/RMNs.
Maria grew up in Valcea, about 200km north west of Bucharest, Romania. She always wanted to “to help people”, training as a registered general nurse in her home country of Romania
After qualifying she worked at an army hospital for four years, then made the move to the UK.
Having nursed in a busy hospital, Maria was keen to experience life in a residential care setting, so she spent three years in a North Wales care home. Comparing the two environments she says: “I much prefer being in a care home. In a hospital people come and go all the time. But I like to get to know them over months and years and you can only do that when you’re working in a care or nursing home.”
Maria has now been a nurse team leader with our organisation for a year. When on duty she oversees other nurses, dresses wounds, inserts and removes catheters, administers medication, manages medication audits and deals with risk assessments, care plans and other paperwork.
“I really love my job,” she says. “No two days are the same and there are as many rewards as there are challenges.”
Away from work Maria loves cooking and visiting her family in Romania at least twice a year. She’s particularly close to her young nephews.
