Job roles with Canford Healthcare

A career in care is incredibly interesting, challenging and fulfilling. In a typical care home, you’ll see nurses and carers working alongside other job types, such as housekeepers, administrators and facilities staff, all overseen by the care home management team. Although they all work as part of a team, each member of staff plays their own vital part in the day-to-day care of elderly and vulnerable people.

Administration roles

The administrator ensures that the home is administered in a professional manner, supporting the home manager and the deputy manager/clinical lead in the smooth running of the home. He/she acts as front of house, being the first point of contact for visitors and telephone enquiries, fostering a professional and caring image of the home and liaising with the organisation’s finance, HR and marketing teams. They also conduct show-arounds to prospective residents and deal with GPs, hospitals, councils and social services teams during a resident’s admissions process. The administrator is supported by one or more administration assistants.

Participating in creative and meaningful activities is vital to the health and wellbeing of our residents, reducing loneliness and depression, instilling confidence, building relationships and making them feel included and valued. Together with their activities organiser(s) , each home’s head of activities arranges daily activities and events, encouraging residents to participate as much as they want. The team supports their existing interests and aspirations, as well as their cultural and spiritual needs, sending photos of activities, birthdays and celebrations to the marketing team who posts them on the homes’ Facebook pages.

Caring roles

Caring roles

The care team comprises the largest among all the teams at the home. At the top is the home manager, supported by the deputy manager. This senior team is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day running of the home, including the regulatory requirements, as well as the residents’ welfare. The clinical lead oversees the nursing and care assistant teams and applies the highest standards of modern and professional practice to all aspects of care.

Other roles within the care team include assistant practitioners who provides a high standard of nursing care (within their scope of practice) and manage their units In the absence of a nurse and senior care assistants who both look after residents and supervise care assistants. Senior care assistants/medical technicians do this as well as administering prescribed drugs to residents while care assistants who look after residents on a day-to-day basis.

Facilities roles

Each home has a facilities technician who is responsible for the various health and safety aspects of life in the home. Their role encompasses general decoration, maintenance and repair throughout the home and grounds.

Housekeeping roles

Overseen by a head of housekeeping, the domestic and laundry staff maintain the highest possible standards of cleanliness around the home and provide a first-class laundry service to the home and residents.

Our operations staff are responsible for overseeing quality and the implementation of good governance in our homes, plus compliance with relevant legislation and industry regulation

Training roles

As a member of the home’s management team the quality & training co-ordinator plays an important part in the provision of ongoing training and development within the home. He or she works with the home manager to improve the overall quality and delivery of service offered to residents, in accordance with the home’s core values and philosophy of care.

Nursing Roles

Nursing Roles

Led by the nurse team leader or clinical lead, the nurses provide a high standard of physical and psychological nursing care while also overseeing the care staff, as required. For nursing roles we require previous experience and a current Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) pin. We provide continuous training which helps support each nurse’s three-yearly revalidation process.
