Activities are vital to the health and wellbeing of older adults and the activities team works hard to organise a varied programme of meaningful activities inside the home as well as trips out to places of interest. These can be group activities in the lounge or garden, or sessions on a 1:1 basis with individual residents. The role can involve liaising with outside organisations to arrange for singers, musicians, art and craft specialists and friendly animals or to come safely into the home. Working with the head of activities and other members of the team, the activities assistant will get to know residents’ likes, dislikes and hobbies so that planned activities can be as person centred as possible.

The activities assistant will also take photos of activities and events to send to the residents’ families and the marketing team for posting on the home’s website and Facebook page.

This may not necessarily be a nine to five role but for the right person it will be exciting and varied. To be successful, the activities assistant must be warm and supportive, able to encourage and motivate others and build positive relationships with residents. They must also be creative and a good organiser, be proficient in Microsoft Office and have excellent oral and written communication skills.
